Our ClassIn this class, we will travel to Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. Eight themes of civilization will guide our studies. We will look to identify the legacies left for us by many famous individuals such as Alexander, Jesus, Charlemagne, and Leonardo da Vinci, just to name a few. We will see what many of these great individuals had in common with each other and influential leaders of the Modern Era. We will master the skills necessary to be a successful historian, enthusiast, and student, no matter the topic. But most of all, we will understand what it means to be a respected citizen within a society, and challenge each other to leave our own legacy.

Features of CivilizationsCivilization is a complex way of life that came about as people began to develop urban settlements. The earliest civilizations developed around 5,000 years ago, first appearing in Mesopotamia; then later thriving in Egypt, in the Indus Valley, in China , and in Central America. As a matter of fact, civilizations developed on every continent except Antarctica. As we will see, all civilizations have certain characteristics.
